LONDON, OFF THE BEATEN TRACK, really!

I couldn’t have find a better description. I found it in https://www.reddit.com/user/matthauke/!
“Grown up in Lewisham my entire life, it's had a reputation for being rough, but in reality it's just like any part of the city that's relatively poor. But like a few people have posted here, it's labelling of "dangerous" is more an economical and racial issue. A greater number of non-white communities and poverty and people assume it's more dangerous, when in fact it's far more complex than that.
Personally, I love the mix of cultures in Lewisham, it certainly helped me gain a wider understanding of other walks of life and class. Basically people stay quite close to their white, middle class bubble and just assume of lot of life outside that is dangerous. Not always that cut and dry but in essence that's how this opinion has formed.
In reality places like Brixton are really gentrified now, it's expensive to live there are there's a real disconnect between the the influx of wealthier residents and the West Indies communities, but it's still a great place to live. Same with Peckham. As others have said non South London areas have their fair share of really rough places and lovely places too. For every Newham there's a Lambeth, and for every Hampstead Heath there's an East Dulwich.
Don't get me wrong, it's not Fitzrovia, where you can drop your guard fully, it's still a densely populated place with crime. But the "dangerous" tag is an outdated one, and speaks more about people's prejudices than the actual facts.

Why are London cabbies reluctant or refuse to go south of the river after dark?
